Project: NuStar Energy
Scope: Replace three pumps that had reached their end of life
On this project we provided the electrical engineering, programming and control modules. The three Caterpillar 3612 engines (supplied by MustangCAT) and pumps (supplied by Best Pump Works) were used for the retrofit of the existing units.
All controls were skid mounted and factory wired to the end devices, eliminating most of the costly field wiring that is often required with remote mounted control.
As the existing facility utilized GE PLC's, GE's PACSystemsT RX3i family of PLC's were used for the engine and pump controls. SCADA functionality was done via both Genius Bus and Ethernet Global Data in order to make use of the facility's current infrastructure (Genius) and to provide for future upgrades (Ethernet Global Data).
A Schneider Electric HMI was provided on each unit's main control panel, allowing for easy operator interface for monitoring engine status, alarm and shutdown displays, and animated gauges for all analog devices. The HMI allows the ability to change alarms and shutdowns, and also has different levels of password protected access to limit such features from unauthorized users.
